    Fiber optic front sight

I'm thinking of modifying a fixed front sight to a FO. This is a pistol that doesn't have a ready made replacement sight available. So, I'm wondering if I could groove the sight and epoxy a piece of fiber rod to it?
This sounds too easy, so what problems would I have?

I have made fixed sights in to FO by drilling them out. They need to have support at the ends. Epoxy may not be the best.

      OK, 2 good replies.
Unfortunately, my sight is similar to a mil spec 1911 that is only about 1/8" high. I wouldn't be able to drill it, hence the thought of milling or filing a groove and them gluing it. I think finding the right kind of glue would be the trickiest part.

Problem with epoxying an FO rod into a modified sight is what happens when the FO rod breaks (remember that they are just plastic).
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Not good with posting pictures, but here's a link to Google pictures.

The front sight is very small. The pistol already shoots low, so I wouldn't to raise the front sight. The rear sight is not elevation adjustable.

The slide and front sight is all steel, so it wouldn't be hard to heat it a bit to soften up the epoxy and remove a bad piece of fo rod.
I think I'll give this a try next time I get bored.

On the video's I've seen, the fo rod is melted and belled out when replacing it in a sight to mechanically lock it in place. Does the expanded end also increase the light transmission (make it brighter)?
