    Mag Release Problem

I just finished building the lower for my AR-15. I went with an SI Defense lower and a Stag LPK. The mag is not falling freely when I depress the bullet button. It doesn't seem to be the mag catch as I can see that it fully clears the mag. The mag does fall free after pulling it about a half-inch out. I don't have an upper at this time and only have one magazine. Is not having an upper the problem?

What kind of mag? I hav some that don't drop free either. Check out this sitehttp://www.fulton-armory.com tons of info.

It's a 10-round "Pro-Mag Colt AR-15/Sporter". I'm gonna try some different mags if I can find any before I mess with anything else. Thanks for the link.

Is the mag used? Could be that it's swollen when fully loaded. Try "pinching" the mag in the upper portion were it's inserted into the mag well. You can use a vise and try to sqeeze the mag slightly after putting something such as a piece of wood on each side of the mag to prevent any damage to the mag when you set it in the vise. You can also use a pair of Channel lock pliers and try it that way...

There's your problem.. It's a Pro-Mag.... Try using a non-ProMag 10 rounder and see if you're still having problems with the magazine catch.

A little work with the vise grips seems to have done the trick. The mag now flies out when when I press the release. Thanks for all the quick responses.

Does it still fly out when it's fully loaded with 10 rounds?

Yeah it works fine when loaded w/ 10 rounds as well. Is this a common problem w/ Pro-Mags?

You'll see it sometimes with new mags, especially cheap quality mags. If you rebuild your mags, or get used mag rebuild kits, you may run into this issue. Easily solved for the most part.

Low quality workmanship is a common problem with Pro-Mags.
