I have a 9mm XD subcompact that was not optimally working for me with respect to the factory mag release button and slide release. Both of these parts were hard to reach and/or manipulate.
To resolve these issues I:
- purchased and installed a .10 Powder River Prescision extended mag release
- purchased and installed a Magloc extended slide release
Both of these parts went in with out problems and seemed to function properly when dropping empty mags, using mags with snap caps and operating the slide.
I went to the range today to try the pistol out in advance of some training next month. I ran through 14 mags or 140 rounds of 115 gr Federal American Eagle ammo and had the following problems:
1.) of the 14 mags, only 3 or 4 held the slide back after the tenth and last bullet was shot. Unless one was constantly round counting it was like regularly having to do a tactical reload because the gun went click- with no bang - and no slide hold back.
2.) there were three or four times that when loading in a new mag and closing the slide that the first bullet did not upload all the way. It was like doing a Type 1 malfunction where you need to tap the magazine base and then rack the slide again to properly upload and seat the first round of the magazine.
Although the above problems did not hamper shooting accuracy, they are issues that I need to resolve.
Any suggestions?
Is #1 above a function of the new slide release? Does it need to be slightly bent or is this something that resolves itself with time and more rounds down range?
Is #2 above a function of the new mag release? Does the mag release need to be slightly rotated such that a different portion of the pin cutout faces the rear/release mechanism?
Are these issues that I can easily resolve or is it time to visit a professional gunsmith?
I would appreciate a pointer from someone who is experienced with these type of issues.
Thanks in advance for your help!
