How to Remove Rust from Shotgun Barrel

I inherited a O/U shotgun from my grandfather. It had quite bit of rust on it and I was able to remove the rust from the lower part with gun oil and 000-0000 steel wool. However, the barrel is a different story as it was coverred with rust. I stripped the blue and some of the rust with Blue Wonder but lots of rust remained. What can I do to remove the rust and pits? Can I bead blast the barrel, polish it then reblue? Does any know any gunsmith around Sacramento area that offer such service? Thanks

Molasses.

1 part molasses to 4 parts water.

Clean the gun free of all oil grease etc.
Allow the metal parts to sit in the bath for about 10-14 days.
Does not remove paint, only rust.

The chelatin action removes the rust without harming the metal. Pits will also be rust free and clean.

Take it out and clean up and oil it.

When done, further dilute the mixture and pour in your garden.

BTW, what is the best way to smooth out some of the rust pits? I already removed the blue so I'll have to reblue it.

If the barrels are soldered you won't want to hot blue it. It may melt the solder. They can be rust blued or cold blued.
