    Noob Ak build question

I have read instructions on building an AK from a flat.

My probably obvious question is. Why do you have to remove the barrel from the trunion?

    To get all the rivets!
there is two inside the area where the barrel gets pressed in.

You could do a weld build, then you don't have to remove the barrel

I have an AMD65 kit and plan on doing a screw build as a test bed so I can reconfigure it to try different things.

I took it out and looked at it again and now see the two rivets who's backs butt up against the barrel. Can I drill those out and then put in the screws?

The problem is that I don't have a press. So I'm seeing if there is a viable work around.

        Thanks

Where are you? I have a press you can use if you are nearby or you can mail it to me and I will press it and mail it back to you if you pay shipping both ways. Someone was nice enough to do that for me before I had a press. Mine is only 12 tons but it was good enough for a kit I just demilled.

That is a very generous offer and I thank you. Being a total noob I want to be involved in every aspect.

By the way, when you say 'press' are you talking about a Drill Press to remove the rivets inside the trunion or a Hydralic Press to push the barrel back in?
The "press" I don't have access to is the hydraulic one.

              I'm near Santa Clarita.

I'm sure you meant this, but I'm not so sure the other guy'll know:

Make sure that you (unless I'm wrong and BDD Dubloon has an FFL) you do NOT mail the receiver! Do all you want with the parts kit, or with the receiver in the owner's presence... just don't do anything with the receiver through the mail.
