    Savage 24V problems

    I have a 24V that was a .222 / 20 GA. I got it used and didn't fire it until after I Re-chambered it to .223 Wylde / 20 GA.

It may fire once or twice, then it won't unlock the barrels. It happens when i shoot .223 or the 20 GA, so I doubt it's related to the re-chambering.

Eventually, after messing with it a while, it will open. Anyone ever heard of this?

You need to be more specific:

Does the lever move, when it won't unlock?
If the lever does move do the barrels move at all?
    Define "Messing with it".

The lever does move, but I can't break the barrels open. I keep shoving the lever back and forth until eventually it unlocks. Maybe it's just cooling down. But the cases extract fine. I have a gunsmith that works for me and he doesn't know. It will fire a shot or two, maybe even three, then it won't unlock.

      Thank you for any help.

It is probably one of the plungers or springs bound up or gunked up:

        Top Snap Plunger Spring
        Locking Bolt Plunger
        Top Snap Plunger
        Locking Bolt Plunger Spring

            Lets see...

How sure were you that the gun wasn't working fine before you made the improvements? Ah huh... A hammer, a big hammer always works for me.

Break open actions work best if grease is used where the barrel and receiver mate.

Remove any oil from these areas and then apply a good coating of a grease.

Gun grease, Gunslick, Lubriplate, assembly lube/moly graphite. Also a good idea on the lever parts and barrel lugs.

It's an easy fix that may solve your problem.
