    Adhesive for grip tape

I am using this grip tape on my 1911, as you can see its meant for outdoor use and heavy traffic yet is already pulling away from flat/smooth surfaces. The grips I'm using are plain, smooth with no texture at all that I specifically purchased to use with this tape.

Does anyone have any suggestions of an adhesive I can use that will work not pull away BUT won't work too well that when time comes to change this tape out after wear I won't be able to get it off!!?

Maybe good surface prep, like cleaning with alcohol first.

I have used the grip tape meant for hockey sticks on several occasions with good success.

Plain old 3M contact adhesive, come in a spray can. strong stuff.

That said I'm with Ol' shooter, never a fan of grip tape, buy better grips.

I used some old skateboard grip tape on my Gen2 Glock with no problems. I cleaned it with alcohol first.

I have small hands so the grit helps keep grip tight. I have grit tape on my HK that were made for it and I shoot way better than I did beforehand

Sounds like it's time to look into a set of VZGrips

I get tape on a Glock as there are no swappable stocks...

For a 1911, I don't get why you don't get stocks with grip....

To answer some of the responses:
Because my hands and I am different from you!

I use to run hogue grip wrap over my HK my grouping was unacceptable, got rid of it ran with it as is and then added grit tape now much better and tighter

I ran hogue grip on 1911 and similar problem

So I put flat/smooth 1911 grip on them and added the grit tape... grip is very tight now

Maybe this would help your grip.

Clean surfaces with acetone, then just prior to applying the tape, wet the adhesive with acetone. Allow to drip off and apply. Let it cure for an hour or so (to let the acetone flash off from the bond), and I think you'll find it sticks a lot better. As to whether it will last as long as you want it to, who knows?

I use this on a couple of my knives. Works well.
