    Headspacing

I acquired a new .308 barrel and set of clymer gauges 1.630/1.634

I took out the ejector and locks and rotates on go gauge fine but it also locks and rotates on the no go gauge. I thought it wasn't even suppose to be able to rotate on the no go.

Should I contact company for replacement barrel?

Not yet. NoGo is OK, but disfavored.

What kind of gun and barrel?

7.62x51 chambers should be between 1.632" and 1.636".
Check your chamber with 1.636" and 1.638" gauges to see what you really have.
It's quite common for barrel makers to chamber their 308 marked barrels to 7.62x51 specs so that customers can use both 308 and 7.62x51 ammo types.

Email KAK and tell them the problem. Let them know that you'd like to send the BCG and the barrel back to get them exchanged for a set that headspaces correctly with both GO and No-Go gauges. They shouldn't have a problem with that.
Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Some people are just incapable of understanding the simplest of things.

Head space: There has to be something reloaders do not understand about the length of the chamber from the datum to the bolt face or shoulder of the chamber to the bolt face. And then there is the press and the reloader, there has to be something about threads the reloader/smith does not understand. And then there are tools, I measure the length of the chamber three different ways with 3 different tools and not one of the tools is a head space gage.

Head space correctly with both gages?

I am the only one that can set/check the head space for go-gage length or no go-gage length with one gage.

I believe you should start by measuring the length of the chamber without a head space gage.

A builder asked me to bring 35 bolts to his shop, he wanted to reduce the length of the chamber on a rifle he was building; I asked him 'by how much?' He did not know 'by how much' so I made a shop call. He had 30 30/06 head space gage, all he could figure out was the chamber was longer than a go-gage and shorter than a no go-gage.

He did not understand my offer but (for free) I offered to modify a go-gage to a go to infinity gage, that is enough to cause the weak to pass out and the strong to get dizzy.

Anyhow, I measured his chamber and it worked out to be .0075" longer than a minimum length case from the shoulder to the bolt face.

I was only thinking of being a smart arse and say "In the words of Mr Guffey" "cartridges have no headspace".

Just thinking that crap congers him up from the dark side of the web.
