I want to change the front sight on my Springfield EMP 3" 9mm to a fiber optic sight. I also have a 4" EMP that came with a fiber optic sight that I like a lot.
I've emailed Springfield with some questions and I'm awaiting a answer. I'll call them in a few days if I don't get a reply soon.
But, in the mean time, here's a few questions.
The 3" front sight is dove tailed and appears to be pinned down through the slide. The top of the pin looks like it was snapped off. It's a ragged/angled edge. It's very small diameter, like the thickness of a small paper clip. This may be a problem. I'm assuming that it needs to be punched through? Then the sight needs to be pushed out of the dovetail. I've read that Springfield may have used locktite, and a little heat may help with removal. Anyone know if they routinely use locktite on their dovetail sight bases?
As for the sight itself, I'm also asking Springfield if their sight on my 4" would work well on my 3". And what brand and where to purchase. So far, it looks like Dawson Precision and EGW make aftermarket sights that will fit the Springfield. Who would have thought that Springfield's dovetail is different than all the other brands? Any thoughts on these 2 brands?
I've gotten a recommendation for Oscars gun shop in Rosemead to do the work, if I decide to take it in. Any thoughts on this gunsmith?
