Removing Rust from a Beretta 950 Jetfire

What, if anything can be used to remove the rust on the slide from this Beretta 950 Jetfire? It's my grandfathers and I'd like to maybe get it fixed for him. Rust is on both sides of the slide from what I was told. Don't know if anywhere else

Depending if its surface rust or if there is pitting. You can get a new slide for about $100.

                What is your budget?

One could have it professionally redone or refinished to a professional level.

                Or

One could mechanically remove the rust and spray paint it.

I have a purple .25 acp.... the gun originally cost $19.... it rusted....
                Light sanding
Spray paint that was on the shelf....

                ---
As the gun rusted, it was not taken care of correctly.... and that is OK

But why refinish it back to factory finish as that will most likely rust again...

The highest level of gloss will hold up the best with rattle can....

The mid grade solution would be an aerosol can of alumna Hyde 2 from brownells

Clean rust, prep, spray, wait 1 week, done

If you live in Orange County. PM me for help on rust removal and a basic going over. Cost = 1 cup "O" coffee.

If you want it done with a parked refinish job.
Go visit AR15barrels. As Randall is an amazing smith.
He will fix it while you stand there eating a sandwich and trying to understand the universe. He is a very, very good smith. And kinda funny looking

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, Ill need to see if its anywhere else on the gun. Turns out it was kept outside in a crown royal bag, so I'm guessing its more than just surface rust

I have used electrolysis to remove rust from tools and guns for quite some time with pretty good results. It's pretty easy to set up, and is a great way to reduce your bronze wool and kroil time IMHO.

This is what I'd do. I've seen the 950 series of pistols in high gloss and matte finishes - yours appears to be the matte finish. There's no point in trying to restore the pistol to any semblance of originality as it has no real collector value, and a parkerizing job will fit in nicely with the pistol's remaining finish.

Alternately, you could have it sandblasted and spray it with a flat moly resin. John Norrell sells a moly resin that you spray onto a sandblasted surface and then bake on. It is very, very durable.
