    1911 front and Rear Sight Problem

    Hey All,

    I have two separate 1911 that have sight issues that I need to fix;

    First is a Dan Wesson Valor that the rear sight came loose and just slides out of the cut on the slide. Any tips or tricks to reinstall?

    Second is a Springfield Loaded 9mm that has a fiber optic front sight. The fiber piece has come out and the sight now just has a hole in it. What is the best way to expand the end of the fiber piece to keep it in the front sight?

    I have never had an issue with either of these sights and then they both came apart on the same range trip

    Thanks in advance.
    If I had to describe myself in one word it would be "bad at following directions"

    Dan Wesson rear - Does it have a set screw? If yes, center the rear sight and drive the screw in with loctite. There may be a way to peen the sight dovetail a bit where you won't see it once installed, to make it tight in the slide dovetail again. Once installed and shoots true, I personally would drill a shallow dimple (like those used for AR gas block set screws) into the slide where the set screw bit into it, and give the set screw a hole to anchor the sight. Of course, this is only if you want to fix it yourself and have no need to drift the rear sight ever... Or you can talk to DW customer service about sending it back.

    Front FO sight - Insert the tube into the FO hole in the front sight, take a lighter and just kiss the end of the tube on the front end of the tube (muzzle side) to create a bead of melted plastic, and then pull the FO tube towards you. Trim the other end of the tube to leave just a bit of tube proud of the sight, and then use the lighter to do the same as the other end again. Youtube has full videos on this if you're more of a visual learner like me. Search for Fiber Optic tube install or something like that.

      How to peen a loose dovetail sight

      You can also cut out a piece of thin metal to use as a shim, put the shim under the sight when you drive it back into the dovetail.
