DIY AR Thumb Shelf?

Anybody make their own thumb shelf for use with a grip wrap? Was going to head to the hardware store once I have some free time to look around but thought someone else may have found something simple that can be easily screwed into a grip.

Simple would be to just get a round plastic 3/4 spacer and screw that into a grip.

Reading this I thought of getting a small solid block of ABS to shape into the preferred shape for a thumb shelf and looked at the square part of a 4" end cap to cut off... but the one I had laying around that part was hollow. Maybe a smaller one would be solid.

Or if you wanted laminate several pieces of ABS, PVC, or kydex that could get you a block of material thick enough to shape a good thumb shelf out of.

Other ideas I've had all involve some careful welding.

A drop down shelf welded to a rear take down pin.
Using a 45 degree throw ambi safety weld a wider thumb shelf on that.
A drop forward and down shelf welded to a buffer tube end plate.
Using a buffer tube end plate with a non rotating sling q/d you could weld the drop forward and down shelf to a sling q/d and the shelf could be removable and reversible for ambi use that way.

All good ideas. I was thinking of just shaping something on the mill but I'd rather just find something pre made without paying more than a couple bucks.

I just slipped a small piece of kydex under the wrap and bent into shape.

I have made a few posts that simply attach by drilling a hole in the fin right where the pocket of your thumb and pointer finger lands on the fin.
This makes it so the post rests in your hand LIKE a conventional pistol grip would if you had a pistol style grasp, allowing you a push-pull single hand grip.
I make the post about an inch in diameter and maybe 3/4" long.
You might call it a knob instead of a post because it's wider than it is tall.

I'd rather just find something pre made without paying more than a couple bucks.

A stack of washers, a button head screw and a nut on the back side of the fin would work.

No.

Just grab a fin grip gun and then set a little round post in the crook of your thumb and pointer finger.
Mark where the post goes and drill a hole.
The post attaches with a screw through the pin.

That new grip looks pretty good. I'd like to try one on an ar15.

But FWIW, the shelf I added (shown above) is trapped perfectly between my thumb and hand. It does allow you to add purchase with your thumb. Kydex is easy to mold and you can customize it to your hand.

I just bought one used for cheap that I'm considering as a featureless option. Also may make some adjustments to it while staying compliant.

That's what my post does.
It's not a thumbrest.
It's something to pull against with your 3 fingers that are wrapped around the front of the grip.
