Winchester 61 spring question

I opened a newly acquired Winchester 61 (22 cal) to do a basic cleaning and check the barrel interior. In doing so there was a bent spring under the middle of what I believe is called the ejector. (See arrow on photo)

When I touched that area the spring broke in half and then flew in two different directions.

In looking at the parts list and "exploded schematic" I can't tell what this part is called or what it actually does. Can anyone enlighten me?

Also, is this something I need to have a gunsmith repair? (I don't have a large amount of experience in this type of repair and none with this rifle.)

I could not tell from the parts schematic if it was the ejector spring. It was one of two possible options and I wasn't sure if the ejector spring was the upper one, lower one or ???

Thanks also for the pointer to the correct part! It looks like once again the postage will exceed part cost.


Should a relative Noobie attempt this replacement or should I bite the proverbial bullet and find a local gunsmith?

Might take it to local GS before you do anything. Might have spring that will work. Save shipping
