Gunsmith to drill and tap a S&W 686

I'm in the Hanford, Visalia and Selma area and need to find a gunsmith to drill and tap one hole. I just bought a mount from EGW for my Burris Fast Fire III.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I would travel to Fresno or Bakersfield if I need to. Finding a good smith is more important than saving a few miles.

Don't those mounts use a single screw and use an existing screw hole?

With my 686 you just remove the rear sight and install a rail. Atleast that's the easy and simple way to go about it.

It would be that easy on a newer 686s that come with the mounting holes. Mine is a 1982 no dash 686, that was well before they started providing mounting holes.

I would be more than willing to drill and tap it myself, but I'm here temporarily, a few thousand miles from my shop.

I am in Oakhurst, 40 miles Northeast of Fresno. Bring it by or ship it.

I'd think real hard about what that single hole is going to do to the value of a no- S&W.

Makes no difference if he is not going to sell it.

Having been a collector of old military weapons, I learned long ago that it is his weapon and he can do what he wants with it. Unless you are willing to purchase every weapon at a premium price from him so he can replace it with one that has all the features he is looking for, get over it. Or look at it this way, it just increases the value of every other weapon that had never been modified...

Besides value is only an issue if he ever decides to sell it....
