BUDGET DRILL PRESS RECOMMENDATION

Hey there-
I was wondering if anybody had a recommendation for a drill press on the cheap that will work well for finishing off an 80% lower? I'm talking BUDGET here. As in inexpensive as possible . Make and model would be great and perhaps even some specs on what to look for in a drill press unit.
(All work done in compliance of CA laws of course!)

Check craigslist. I got a Skil press for $60 i think a couple years ago, still going strong.

Get a 10" or 12" if going tabletop. If you have space, get a freestanding press.

Will the drill press be used only for drilling holes? Or to try and do some actual milling? While even a pretty sturdy one isn't really recommended, don't even try with a budget one. Most problems with a budget one used just for drilling will be the base. It needs to be steady.

Yeah so I think the way to go is a router correct ? It seems like a much better tool for teh job as opposed to a drill press.. Thoughts??

If i had to do it over again, i definitely would have gone with the router jig.
But i still would have bought the drill press...

The router is better for cutting a fire control pocket.
You will want the drill press to drill the holes though as you can't drill the holes with a router.

The Chinese must be having those kids work overtime. I cannot believe some of the prices for things that are sold and are made in China. Sure it's a cheap piece of junk, but it will turn a drill bit.

Ryobi from Home Depot. Bench top drill press. I e done multiple 80% on it. Works very well and won't break the bank.

Craigs list is your best option IMHO.

Look for the biggest you can find for the money you have. Check it for runout before you buy.
