    1911 Rear sight removal problem

So I have a Springfield 1911 in 9mm that I am trying to change the rear sight on. I have a sight pusher and have used it to remove sights on other guns before (Beretta 92, Springfield XD).
For some reason, the rear sight on this 1911 will not move. I removed the vertical adjustment screw and the two springs that sit on either side, but when I crank down on the sight pusher, nothing happens. I know how much pressure it took to remove the other sights, and I tried MUCH more pressure but I couldn't get it to budge a millimeter.
    What am I missing?

I thought it might just need a little more muscle, but honestly I cranked on it so hard a slightly marred the cuts on the side of the slide from the pressure. I had a small strip on leather on each side to protect it, but I have to think it shouldn't take that much force.

It was pain in the ... to remove kimber fixed sight. But target aka adjustable will move easily by hand if you pop the top part(elevation) and untwist set screw.

I recently had to remove the sights on my friend's 9mm 1911, also Springfield. They used loctite on the sights. Both front and rear.

Not sure why since the sights fit snuggly just like they should and there was absolutely no reason for loctite...

I used a brass punch and hammer. But heat would have probably helped more.

          And the loctite looked red-ish...

On the same gun I have discovered that it was put together by an idiot with two left hands. I don't know why any person would do what was done...

They couldn't figure out how to fit the beavertail correctly so they butchered the frame, the beavertail and the thumb safeties (ambi).

I would actually like to see the thumb safety frame holes on yours, the pins of the ambi safeties and the hole in the grip safety if you don't mind. I wonder if the same assembler guy struck again...

Did you try pushing from the opposite side?

Good question. Usually it is Left to Right to install and the opposite to remove if I remember correctly.

It's hard to tell, but if you take a look at the slide closely with a magnifying glass sometimes you can tell how the maker originally pushed the sight on by marks on one side only..

Did you remove/loosen the set screws?

Had a similar problem installing a adjustable rear sight on my Loaded. Got the sight half way off then nada. Had to use a punch to complete the removal. New one went one like magic. Couldn't see any Loctight on the slide. Good luck OP.
