    Parkerizing

I am going to blast and parkerize my Galil kit.

I ran into an issue with my first AK years ago. The metal turned out a charcoal grey, no matter how many times I redid it. So this time I am thinking about buy the Zinc parkerizing pre-dip blackener. Will that change anything when I use the magnesium phosphate? Or will it turn out ok?

I always thought that it depends on the composition of steel, it's hardness, etc. The color can be affected by those. Blackener should help, I guess. If you want it, I have the unopened bottle.

Manganese is darker than zinc to begin with.

In any case, here is an example of manganese

Here is another done in the same tank and same solution

Here is another example of manganese in fresh solution

Grips on that gun are black, so don't let the lighting fool you. It is dark.

But that rifle is lighter... I am a complete noob when it comes to park. Someone else will chime in.

Zink is the wrong direction, Parking is a shade of gray and depends on the steel as Mosin stated,

Post blackener, we tried that at the last state wide build, Madriverarms was running the tanks, stuff came out great. I don't mind the gray though.

Thanks for the replies. When I did mine it turned out grey. But when I did other CGer's it turned out beautifully black. I just want to take an extra step to get a better looking parking job.

oddly enough, I have found that pre-heating the parts to same temp or hotter than the manganese solution does affect the color outcome. After blasting, I warm water rinsed parts and parked, parts came out medium gray and was not happy.

Did a light blast and heated same parts to boiling in distilled water just before parking and they came out a dark gray/near black. Same solution, same parts, difference was marked.
