    AR Barrel threading

Looking for a Gunsmith that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to thread a barrel to install a muzzle break in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I know .. I know .. I know .. I can buy a tap set on amazon for $ 55 or why the hack do you need a muzzle break on AR? This is the only barrel that need threading (some how, I bought a barrel that is not threaded so don;t want to clutter the already messy house with more tools) and just want to make it look cool, not because it's needed with .223. Worst come worst (and the price is more expensive), I will just buy a tap set.

    Thx in advance for help.

you can buy a tap set all you like but that won't put threads on the outside of your barrel

I do it all day long for many shops in the Bay Area. But I damn sure dont give it away. What do you do for a living? Want to take less pay tomorrow, for the same work?

FYI, I had a friend do it on his manual lathe. It is not quick nor is it easy. Three hours to cut it down and then cut the threads. It was a eye opening operation.

If he spent all 3 hours doing that job, your friend is not very proficient in the use of his lathe.

                  Was a six pack involved??

If one is set up for it, it should take much less time. But, that is what you are paying a professional for. Knowing exactly where to hit it, and how hard.

I can have to barrel removed from the action, chucked up and indicated in, turned down threaded and back together in and hour or less.

and that is on a manual lathe. but i've been single pointing thread for 27 years.
