The drill press I will be selling is this:

      Upgraded with:

Drill Chuck Arbor, #2 Morse Taper, #33 Jacobs Taper, 4-17/64" Overall Length
McMaster-Carr is the complete source for your plant with over 595,000 products. 98% of products ordered ship from stock and deliver same or next day.

      And this:
      Jacobs Drill Chuck

      The vise is this:

Also, I bought a different table to use with this drill press, but it doesn't fit really well, so whoever wants the press with the vise will get the original table and the one I have on it (super tight on the column without even using a screw in the back).

What is a good versatile jaw width? 4" 3"?

          I would go 3".

There are more often problems with the jaws being too LONG than there are with jaws being too short.
Long parts can stick out the open end of a vise, but short parts with things that sticking out the sides of the part are a problem when the jaws are long.

I may go with the Wilton 11693 cross slide vise just because I have had hard time lining up the holes to be drill. With your earlier recommendation of one way vise, I would be re-positioning the vise all the time, I think.

Thanks for all your advises so far. If you have other insight against going with the cross vise then I would be interested to hear as well.

If you have a little extra cash to spend you might want to consider getting a cheap mini mill. You can always sell it after youre done with most of your projects. Wait for harbor freight to run a promotion or discount. I've heard of guys getting it for around $500.

                No wiggle at all.

I advise to strip it apart, degrease, clean, regrease and reassemble before use. Mine was a little gritty out of the box but smooth as butter after I did this.
