1911 RMR... Waiting for a screw and loctite

Just thought I would share with those of you that don't see my videos.

This is by far the best I have done as far as fit goes... Coincidentally, it is also the most expensive due to the RMR.

Well, here it is waiting for the optic.

By the way, your videos inspired me to reverse crown my 1911 barrel:

I have been trying to get on Photobucket to upload a couple of snapshots from the latest video. I just dropped it on the mount to show how it would look. But the site keeps failing to load.

Very nice. I am still deciding whether I should reverse crown mine. By the way, Chuck is my inspiration. I am still years away from his level, but hoping to catch up some time in the future. Perhaps when he retires

              What slide release is that?

ETA: Thats an awesome job on the ejector blending, its very seamless. Was that an EGW part? Just an excellent job

Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

Harrison Design. The parts are amazing. I like them better than WC actually.
I am using HD Slide Stop, Thumb Safety, Beavertail Grip Safety, Ignition Kit with the True Radius sear, Magazine Release, Hammer Strut... I think that is it.

The differences that make these parts great:

                1. Thumb Safety

Unlike Wilson Combat Thumb Safeties I have used, which have a .153" diameter pin, the HD ones have a .155 to .1555 diameter pin. The hole in the frame being .156 to .157, the HD safety makes for a better fit of itself and of the beavertail.

The HD thumb safety has an overtravel adjustment area, so you can have the thumb safety not go any lower than needed when disengaging it. So you don't get that slight dip and pop back up motion past the Fire position.

The HD thumb safety seems to have a better Thumb pad position. At least for me.

                2. Beavertail

.240 radius. Yes! .240", so even if you start with tangs that are cut with .250 you will have .010" to play with. HD also sells a jig for their .240" radius. In any case, when you have overcut tangs, this is a beavertail to use.

The beavertail filled up the usual gaps under the tangs. As a matter of fact I had to file the underside flats on the frame to allow the beavertail to lower enough to hit the rear wall shoulders of the frame. YAY! No gap.

Beavertail shape agrees with the frames better than some of the other GSs I have tried, except maybe the JEM one.

                3. Slide Stop

Seems to be well made and I like the shape of the thumb pad. It seems to have better surfaces to begin with.

                4. True Radius Sear

If you are not familiar with it, check it out. It is an interesting sear that uses a radius around the sear pin instead of the primary and secondary angles of engagement area cuts.

                Good stuff.

As with all quality parts, you gotta pay to play, but it is worth it... I hate to sound like a snob, but I can't be satisfied building one with e-sarco or Rock Island parts for example...

For beavertail fits I had prescribed to the method of using progressively larger gauge pins until you can fit the pin that is 0.001" larger than your thumb safety pin into the frame. I think I'm going to stop at 0.001" less than the thumb safety pin from now on and lap the rest in and see what happens.

On my latest build I used several WC parts, mostly due to the "look" and some function (lower thumb shelf than typical) that I was looking for, but while WC parts are nice in their own right, when compared to recent offerings from Harrison, or 10-8, or even EGW, they just don't "feel right" anymore... I've been hesitant to build with Nighthawk parts because I'm afraid they might be like the WC parts too much...

Another quality heirloom piece MV! Nice of your wife to leave you alone for all these builds. Even after I built one for the wife, she still drags me out of the house all the time doing anything as long as it is not building guns.

Agreed. My wife is an angel. She lets me be because she knows I like doing this stuff, but I still try to repay with taking her out and spending time together. For now, life is good. It will be better when I have dedicated work space. That way I will not annoy her nearly as much

Top file is locking lug file. I use it to fit the hood, trigger, and for many many other things.
