PLEASE REMOVE. ANSWERED RECEIVED. I recently purchased an old wood stock for my Yugo 59/66 SKS. However, it did not come with the recoil lug assembly (the screw near the forehand grip. Can someone clarify what is the purpose of the recoil lug? Is it only to help prevent the sides of the wooden stock from separating, or does it help the rifle function? Another words, is the recoil lug needed because I tried looking online for a new recoil lug assembly but have not found anyone selling them. Thanks

The receiver rests against the recoil lug. It transfers the recoil forces over a larger area of the stock so the stock is not damaged.
You need one in your stock, to shoot your rifle so you do not damage the stock.Poke'm with a stick!
