    1911 builders 2011 frames

    Hey guys,

Just got my 1911 builders 2011 frame in the mail yesterday (I'll add some pics later on today). overall the quality was on par with limited 10 except for the fact that there was small chips everywhere inside with some oil. Was really disappointed that it could have been blown out with an air compressor. My frame also had bare machining makes in between the rails on either side. BUT, the ramped barrel cut was very very welll done. Machining was top notch on that part of the frame. STI grip slide right on with no fitting necessary.

The frame needed to be filed down a little bit to fit into the matrix precision jig, and leaves a small gap in between the slide and the frame once the rails are cut.

I'll be updating you guys on my build and what I do to make this 2011 into a limited gun for uspsa.

Pretty sure L10 makes them for 1911 builders, at least they were using L10's pictures for a while.

Did you use a shim under the frame when cutting rails?
      And stop teasing... post pics.

I'm sure L10 will pop up here, but I heard there are some misgivings. I don't think L10 supplied them.

We do not supply them. They did steal our pictures last year - prompting us to watermark all of our images.

I almost needed to shim the frame down instead of up. I almost took a mill and milled out the plate a little bit more just to get it perfect but then I said screw it it won't be that off.

How tall is your deck? And did the cutters cut into the frame shoulders (the wider portions of the frame) as well as the dust cover?

the deck measures .450 from the center of the slide release hole, dust cover was not cut at all, .030 gap between the slide and the dust cover

Wow, that was unexpected. I thought you would have said something like .442 - .444"

So the deck on your frame was originally taller than .450?

Where are those pics by the way?

the non sandblasted part in between the sharpies were not done by me, I received the frame like that.

all those metal shavings in the 3rd and 4th image were not done by me, I received the frame like that.

the frame was exactly .450(which is exactly spec I believe), I didn't have to touch anything. I will also not have to use a jig and cut the beavertail tangs since they are already done for me.

Nice. Then I guess they have found someone else supplying a different spec frame.

                          Good luck with your build.

                            STI 2011 specs

                            Attached prints of 2011 specs

Looks like .450 from slide stop hole center to top of deck is in spec.

I didn't mean that I didn't recognize that spec. I was just surprised that it was that spec.

Limited 10 can confirm, but I believe their decks are on a short side. And I figured that maybe all 2011 frames were on a shorter side. Hense my question about shimming.

So when I saw .450" I was surprised.
