    1911 slides?

Just curious. Can I use a slide built for a 45 and build it as a 9mm. I understand the firing pin and hole is wider. Can I just use a 45 firing pin in it then the rest 9mm parts? Thanks

No, the issue is the breach face and the ejector slot.
.45 acp breach face is too wide and the .45 ejector is not going to work reliably or at all.

The 9mm slide has a smaller breach face, and the ejector slot milled closer to center of slide than .45acp. And you need to use a 9mm ejector on the frame.

And as mentioned below the extractor may be positioned differently.

The extractor may be in a different spot too. The extractor claw on a 45 caliber slide may be too far to the side to grab a 9mm case rim.

Just to make it confusing, quite a few 45 ACP slides use 9 mm firing pins now. But still, that does not mean you can/should use a 45 ACP slide to build a 9 mm 1911. 9 mm 1911 slide options are quite abundant these days.

Yup. Interesting slides. Nice for building multi-cal. slides. But as with any SVI product, it is quite expensive...

Some 9mm use a different ejector, some don't. My Para and Smith use a .45 ejector, my Rock doesn't. The extractor is different, but the hole is in the same spot. The big issue is the barrel hood. The hood on 9/40 is around .380, the .45 is .425. Breech face width could be a problem with reliability too

Well crap! Accidentally bought a 45 slide in a commander length. Was intending on building a bull barrel 9mm commander. Maybe I'll sell/trade it. Thanks for the info guys.

Can you send it back? And get a 9mm instead?

I don't think so. I have plenty of 45's so I'll prob just sell or trade it out for a 9mm commander.
