S&W Shield sights need help

Hello.
Hoping someone has a sight pusher or tools to assist with swapping sights. Would also appreciate gunsmith referrals but if it comes to it I'll bang them out with a hammer and punch.

Take it to a smith.

There is a hex screw that secures the rear sight and it is in with red loctite.
Removing the rear sight releases the top of the firing pin safety.

I own a pusher and replace Glock sights with my eyes closed... I won't touch the Shield, and I had two smiths in the IE refuse to work on it.
I ended up at OC Gunsmith, I think I paid him $25 or $30 and he did it while I waited.

I have had an apex fss put in both of mine and since the gun smith has to take off the rear sight to acres the striker block I've had them do the sights then too. If you pay hourly it takes about an hour and you can roll it in to one expense depending on your gun smithing rates of course

Thanks might look into the apex kit, since the rear sight will be off.

Freezing will weaken the Loctite? Good to know. I've heard of heating the set screw with a hot soldering iron.

Maybe freezing the slide then heating the setscrew would be a good combination.

Mine is spot on. I'd check my shooting stance for errors. Those little guns are easy to pull sideways.

No.
Heat breaks down Loctite.
Freezing the slide will shrink it.
Since the sight will also get frozen, they will both shrink and the fit will not change.
Heating the setscrew will expand the setscrew.

If anything, you want to heat the whole slide and rear sight to break down the Loctite, then remove the setscrew and freeze just the sight while the slide is still hot.
That would shrink the sight while the slide is expanded.

Use that and a small piece of duct tape on your sights so they don't get scratched, and a vise and it's pretty easy. Also remember to push left to right to take off and right to left to install, and don't forget the set screw.

done a couple shields ...

not hard with a proper pusher and adapter..
i only charge 30 for sight installs

Thanks everyone I ordered the sight pusher Kyle recommended and heated the slide and put the sights in the freezer went smoothly. Used my calipers to center the front sight.
