    Importance of Torque Wrench

going to get started with the barrel assembly and i've been watching a lot of videos on YT lately where half use the proper torque and others just estimate then check for alignment. All i have is an armorers wrench and and old torque wrench which cant be set to a specific amount of lbs/ft

whats the consensus between calgunners and using a torque wrench for the install?

Well I have never used a torque wrench in the assembly of an AR. I have assembled about 1000 never had one come apart.

If it's my AR No torque wrench needed. If I built a Upper for someone else you bet the torque wrenches are coming out.

As for bolt guns, I witness mark them then torque them back to match the marks up. and verify headspace.

I could only torque the Nut so much till the next hole for the gas tube comes up and when that perfect spot comes up aligned i can slide the tube it except the Nut doesn't feel tightly secured. I could actually unravel the barrel nut with my hand, is this normal for it to have some slack on the threads? i thought tight fits like a tight glove was needed in all parts of a woman.. i mean rifle.

i did use all 4 paper washers that came with the barrel nut, ill try again with less unless you guys think its fine.

Tighten to 30 ft-lbs and then continue tightening into proper alignment.
If you don't know what 30 ft-lbs feels like, you probably do need a torque wrench.
If you can not get the barrel nut to align without exceeding 80 ft-lbs, tighten and loosen the nut a dozen times to burnish the threads together.
You should get some additional travel on the nut while doing that.
If you don't know what 80 ft-lbs feels like, you probably do need a torque wrench.

You can set the wrench to 80 ft-lbs after you go to 30 ft-lbs and then if you can not get the barrel nut to align before it clicks at 80, you know it's time to burnish the threads.
I use Aeroshell 33MS on the threads and the front face of the extension where the barrel nut seats, but any black axle grease will work fine if you do not have the proper grease.

what i did was place the hole at 12'o clock and shimmied it down to the end. if the nut was still loose i placed the nut with the hole turned clock wise to 3'o clock and so forth till i got enough torque at the very end. finishing touches im installing a yhm slant muzzle brake but it keeps on ending up sideways, it comes with one washer so would it be okay to add/remove washers to get it standing up in the right orientation?

You never said you were using a non-standard barrel nut.
Here is a standard barrel nut:

If the barrel nut you are using comes with shims to make it align correctly, shim it until the gas tube hole is at about 10:30 or 11:00 and then tighten into proper alignment.
