    Options for 80% Sig Frame

    Hi All,

I'm getting ready to order a Sig P229 80% frame and I'm having trouble finding anyone other than Matrix Percision to supply one. Are there any other manufacturers that make this 80 frame with jig and rail cutters that you guys liked?

This looks like a neat little project to do on the way to learning how to finish a 1911 and I'm really excited about it.

Thanks for all your input in advance.

I built a Tactical Machine one
And a Matrix the Matrix was straight forward
    Almost to easy

So it looks like Matrix Precision is the go-to "kit" to use with the Sig frames and this is the one that I'm gonna go with. I also found out that Matrix Precision also supplies refinished slides with parts kits to complete the 229 so they make the process of getting everything together very convenient.

Nubrun, that looks like it came out very nice! Have you had a chance to do any test firing to see if there's anything you would have done differently during your build? Also, what kind of finish is on the frame?

The refinished kits are nice and they usually come with night sights, although they don't typically glow anymore. Trijicon will recharge them for $50 I believe. Also the sights are not refinished so they will show wear. Another thing to note is that while the slide is technically refinished, I was not overly impressed with the finish and decided to cerakote the slide and the frame to match.

A couple of things that I would have done differently are prior to cerakoting, I would have enlarged all the pin holes one size or slightly ream them larger to make assembly easier. I would have also cut a little more clearance on the rails, after coating they got pretty tight. Otherwise it was a fairly easy build.

I built two pistols, all matrix parts, easiest builds ever,

CeraKote Sniper gray on the frames. and yeah I would have reamed the frame holes .001" to .002" over size to accommodate the Cerakote. I built these as working weapons. not something to be refined and perfectly fitted. I built them for reliability.

the first one i built is more accurate than either on of my Kimber 1911's. and thats using a literal mixed bag of ammo. I take all my partial boxes of ammo in a given caliber and dump them in a empty bullet box, so when i load a magazine, then might be Federal Hydroshocks, Black talons, Nato ball, Cast reloads JHP's of various designs and FMJ's from god knows where. I just grab rounds load a mag till it's full and shoot.

Both pistols have the ability to cut out a 2" hole at 7 yards in my hands. I've shot them out to 25 yards and I can keep 75% of the hole in a 6" to 8" pattern.

That was the last time I shot them at paper. at my favorite spot in the desert. I have no problems chasing rocks or soda cans across the range, I can hit water bottles at 30 yards and I mean the 16 or 20 oz variety

so the pistols are solid, no doubt about it.

Be sure to follow the law on single shot builds and properly mark them before july 2018 to avoid registration.
