Please help! Why is this happening

When I pull the trigger the hammer falls just a little. When I move the safety into the locked position the hammer drops. Watch the video let me know what I did wrong.

I need your help, thank you.

The safety is not fitted/installed properly
Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

Take the thumb safety out and show us a picture of what you did to the head of the safety.

Also, where did you learn how to fit the thumb safety?

I'm currently learning how to fit a thumb safety, I'm learning to do it all. A bit of what I have learn has been from your YouTube channel (thank you for all the great content). The Kuhnhausen shop manual and other videos and articles.

        Here are a couple images.

Did you do anything else go hammer, sear, disconnector?

            When fitting a thumb safety:

You should have all the other components working as intended. Have you checked if the firing mechanism functions as it should without the thumb safety? Have its head hanging behind the beavertail if you don't have a gauge pin to put in its place. Basically just have the thumb safety pin holding the beavertail in the frame. Test functionality.

            Then, assuming everything is ok:

Take out all components and first make sure the thumb safety fits the frame. The slot of between the body of the lever and the thumb safety head should be able to ride onto the corresponding ridge on the bottom and top of the thumb safety slot. Basically you should be able to insert the thumb safety in the take down position (half way between up (safe) and down (fire) and then be able to raise and lower the thumb safety. Slide should be off the frame for this.

Then, you can put all the firing mechanism components back in without the grip safety so you can see how the sear is blocking the new (you have to get a new one) thumb safety head from even going into the frame completely. Hammer must be cocked when you are fitting the thumb safety. You will remove material only on the sear engagement surface following the angle of the sear and just until it can go in snuggly against the sear.

Once it goes in snuggly, you will try to raise the safety into Safe position. If the slide is not on the frame, the thumb safety can move higher than it normally would. But you are simply trying to see if it can go up. If not, see where it is rubbing on the sear (again, hammer must be cocked).

File a little only where there is rubbing, and very little at a time, constantly checking if it can go up, but don't throw it up all the way. The idea is that when the sear engagement tab is blocking the sear, the sear should not be able to move even a little bit. So it has to be snuggly behind the sear when properly fitted, but it shouldn't jam the sear into the hammer because it is fitted too tightly.

Then put the slide on the frame and perform function checks and safety checks.

First, thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into helping me with this. I did all the function tests you explained and everything works great. I guess you have to screw up a little to learn what not to do.

Second, I'm assuming from what you said "you have to get a new one", that you are saying a definitely screwed up this thumb safety?

I wasn't a fan of the Wilson so I just ordered an EGW HD Thumb Safety. Do you have a favorite thumb and beavertail safety you use with these 1911Builder frames?

Well, yeah, of course it has to be modified further, but that is one of the ways...

Yes, based on what I see that safety is not doing what it is supposed to. I think it would be easier to start with a fresh one, and go slow. See what needs to happen and make it happen. Don't force things or hurry things.

I like WC thumb safeties and apparently EGW JEM beavertails fit 1911 builders frames like a dream at the hand webbing area.

I hope this is ok to reference.

Mr. Harrison posted a wonderful guide to installing and fitting his thumb safety which really helped me.
