I am going to refinish my Colt 1991A1 in black upper w/ dark earth frame. What's a good durable painted finish? I was thinking of parkerizing then Duracoating but I am mildly disappointed with it's durability on a gun that was done 10 months ago. I hear good things about Norrel's Moly-Resin, Aluma-Hyde & Gunkote. I have heard conflicting things about Brownells Teflon-Moly. Any thoughts from people out there who've actually used these coatings? BTW, baking the metal parts at 350 degrees is not a problem for me.

Norrells...KG....
300 deg and 1 hour for Molyresin and a good oven thermometer.
You would be surprised how far off the oven dial is
I swear by moly resin and Aluma-hydeOnly two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,

just 'park' it.. i've used KG and the brownells stuff and as you've seen first hand, it wears like "crap"..
Personally, of the ones I've tried (duracoat, KG's gunkote, brownells rattle can stuff) I prefer the KG when used on a parkerized finish.. It sticks quite well and wears much better (imho) than either of the other two.. But I'll say that I wont ever bother to try and refinish another firearm using any of these spray/bake/cure coatings... They're extremely nice looking when you do it right.. but they just dont hold up well to wear and actual use.. again, *imho, when they do wear, they look a million times worse than the wear you find on blued/parkerized firearms..
if you're looking for protection against corrosion, i LOVE KG.. I did my Sig Sauer mags and <poof> no more rust.. not even on the spots that look like the finish has worn all the way through..
YMMV, but I really dont like any of the spray finishes..Aloha snackbar!Comment
