Deep etching of steel is certainly different from deep etching of aluminum.

Also, your deep etching example is not showing a wide area like the OP was talking about as your letters are quite narrow so the rounded corners don't reallly show.
    True.

Stainless Steel. (I polished the etch edges with a buffer, which is why its rounded. They eteched crisp origionally).

    Stainless Steel

    Brass

Steel (this was accidental so I didn't bother wire brushing it to clean it up)

    Steel

    Large surface area.

I cannot imagine etching using the Q-tip method as its ridiculously slow, but using the etch solution bath method, its no harder than etching aluminum. (for the first picture I think that etch was 6 1/2 minutes, as opposed to 2 1/2 I usually use on aluminum).

All you have to do is pick them up in Irvine.

I followed your method. Super easy and excellent results! I imagine this will become a popular topic. I bought the silhouette cutter so I can do stencils if there's any CGer's in need. Maybe $5 for a complete lower set.

Greg B, is there anything wrong with that unit? I'm definitely interested and I even live in Irvine!

                That I can't say.
I'm pretty sure the older kit is fine, (the one in the back) but we stopped using it when we started CNC engraving at work. So that one got given to me.
The kit in the front I got at the swap meet or a garage sale, don't remember.
                But never messed with it.
Hey, take em both. I'm never going to use them, and I'd like them out of my garage.

Greg B., Thanks very much for your generosity again! I plugged both units in and they both seem to be working, but I've yet to test them out but I will soon. I have a stainless knife blank laying around so I'll use that as a guinea pig.

So excited... Am in contact with TUS industries to hopefully get some stencils made next week.

A box of goodies came from Marking Methods in Alhambra today, and they're also making a stencil for me which should arrive by Friday... I hope to be able to test out everything this weekend.
