C&R rifle conversion to 223 ????

Any suggestion as to a C&R rifle that can be relatively easily converted to 223? First thought is a 722 remington, but is it C&R? Any of the mausers have a bolt that can be modified to work with the 223 diameter case?

I always wanted to try my hand at an SKS conversion to 5.56mm. Weld and dress a ring inside the bolt face to get the proper bolt face size, rebarrel, and there are already plenty of how to guides on making an SKS take AK mags, so you should be able to use Galil, Saiga, or AK mags in 5.56mm. After that it's just starting with a small gas port and working your way up until you get proper function, or messing with spring rations, carrier weight, etc.

I'm not aware of any surplus type bolt guns with a small boltface.
Any bolt rifle over 50 years old is C&R eligible though so maybe you can find an old 222 of some sort.
It's real easy to rechamber 222's into 223's.
I have done a few of them.
