    Revolver Parkerizing

    Hey All,

I was looking at maybe parkerizing my ruger super redhawk. I got my finish with a shinny gloss to it, and I wanted tone it down a bit. More of that matte black instead of just a blue. Also I hate shooting the gun then have to take some steel wool to the front of the cylinder to get it to shine again. I hear its suppose to more rust resistant, but really its cosmetic. It helps with my OCD cleaning that needs to make the whole gun sparkle sparkle. So I feel like parkerizing is the way to go. I was looking at kits and wondered if anybody has gone through the process here on calguns. Any suggestions everyone? Comments on what to use or tips what to do? Should I just be lazy and send it off to a gunsmith? Any suggestions on who does this kind of work here in the the SF bay area?

    Thanks All!

Parkerizing requires a proper set up. I recommend Hot Flash Refinishing He does a AWESOME job with refinishing. You have to send him the revolver disassembled but he will park it for you. Or get a flat cerakote in black, there is usually somebody local who can do it for you. Just check previous work they have done.

I did the parkerizing on this project:

That is a blackhawk which has a steel frame that started out blued.
I thought that the "super" models were all stainless steel.
You can not parkerize stainless steel, but you can glass bead blast it which does make it a nice matte gray.

Thanks AR. Really liked the video series. Thanks for the info. It gives me something to think about when it comes to bead blasting.
