    Moving a mill

For those that say "they can't do it"

It takes a lot to play this game and if you're not willing to work hard sweat and bleed, well maybe you can just play airsoft...

I bet he's got a red flag at the back warning other drivers of an odd load.

    He's good.

That looks like it was taken in the 70's when boys were boys and men were men. You rubbed dirt in your wounds and if you were not bleeding you were not having fun.

And the quote we used back in high school when we were building sets for the theater:
The difficult is done with ease, the impossible just takes us a little longer.

If that was me back then, it would have been in the back of a 1965 GMC C20 with a three on the tree

Yep. El Camino's and Ranchero's were used strictly for mama's and Old Ladies to drive behind biker runs, and running to Coast to Coast Hardware for Harley parts.

I'll have to dig up an old picture of the truck, Thing was beat to hell, wasn't a straight piece of sheet metal on it and rusted to no end, thank god it was in California, it wouldn't have lasted one winter back east.

They aren't hard to move with the right dollies. Main thing I noticed in the picture was the head should have been laid over horizontal, the compound down and the knee bottomed to lower the CG.

We had a kid take daddy's (the owner's) mill back to the other store and he did none of that nor adequately secured it and toppled a nice Lagun out of the truck, punching out the cab window and collapsing the top on the way. Lucky he wasn't killed. Destroyed a nice pickup and a decent milling machine.

All my machines were moved by hand or in my pickup. Rig it right and easy peasy. It's just a chunk of metal. That picture looks like Southeast Asia.

I posted it as a joke to all the "Guys" that claim they want a mill but have no way to move it.

I say BS a good cherry picker is all that's needed and a few strong backs motivated by beer, a drop trailer is nice to have but can be done in a Uhaul trailer too. Ask me how i know.

Now I just pick up the phone and pay someone to move my stuff. i'm over it and $1200 to move my garage anywhere in a 100 mile radius is cheap

Hell i drove over 200 miles round trip to help a buddy out.

A mill is easy to move, a good size lathe??? that's another issue.

A while back I was reminiscing with my sons on how plentiful and cheap used cars were. I have had over 60! 20% of those were VW's, off course! We used to buy them for the weekend for $60 and toss them off cliffs when they were about to give out. In Southern Oregon in the early 70's you could buy a 1950's US land yacht for less than $80. My first was a '59 Coupe DeVille for $65. Scrapped it for $20. Wish I had it now!

I could never remember what Bowie video the scene of the kid dragging the mill down the road was from, thanks.
I always kiddingly say "they'll probably find me slumped over a mill someday."

We bought a couple Haas VF-1's a few years ago. In prepping for their delivery I had to rearrange all the Bridgeports and move two from one aisle to the one behind.
Did all myself with a bigass pry bar. Ugh. Was feeling my oats I guess back then, wouldn't want to do that again.
