    DPMS 308 FTE issue

Hi all I final got a opportunity to shoot a DPMS 308 I built a while back and have one issue FTE. The spent round is stacking inline with the rifle in the ejection port on the smooth side upper. I did some reading on Heavy Buffers web sight to see if my problem is the buffer/spring combo but im still not sure.
The buffer tube is rifle length, The rifle buffer I have is 5.35 oz and the spring has 38 coils. Also the last round hold open functions when done manually I didn't test this when I shot it but do not believe it would have worked.
The gas system is mid length on a 18" barrel and no obstruction to the port hole to gas block. I did not measure the gas hole dimension nor do I know exactly the correct size for this. Thanks in advance for your thought on this.

    Check the extractor and plunger.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
    I'm Back.

Why do you doubt that the bolt hold open will not worked?
The first thing you should have done is function test. Try one round in the mag to test, if the bolt will lock back. Also try different ammo, not sure if what you tried is a weak one.

your correct I should have tryed one round to see if the bolt hold open functioned but was to busy tending to my son and his buddy to fully pay attention to the 308. But I did test with quality ammo Federal gold match
and this i why I feel its not capable of making the BHO, I could be wrong
and hence the reason im asking. what might the gas port hole size be ill check this next

Im using a carbine buffer tube, so Im not sure about rifle length tubes. However, a quick googling showed that the spring coils for rifle length is 39, and the spring is 12.75". You mentioned that you have 38? and the buffer is 5.25" while yours is 5.35"?
