Are there any GOOD gunsmiths in Sacto area?

I have a Remington 512 bolt action 22 that I have had since I was a kid and have kept for 60+ years.



It is in great shape but it has a sporadic problem feeding and at times holding the bolt from opening.

It's a STAMPED gun so the relationship of parts isn't intuitive.
Believe me, I have looked into, poked, prodded, adjusted screws....EVERYTHING.

But I do not know the mechanism well enough to determine what keeps what from doing what.

For the umpteenth time, I took it out again this morning and got it "working" again. But it won't LAST!

Gary T. in Sacto had it for 8 ...MONTHS... .and did nothing but keep the gun.
He said he took it out and shot it and "Boy is it ever swell!"

But he didn't FIX it. First time out and it was doing the stuff again.
I've looked at the innards and the blowup diagrams but can't see how it really works.

I need a smith who knows these older guns.

Does anyone HERE repair these old things?
Or know anyone who might tackle it?

Do the problems occur with different brands and types of ammo or just one brand/type?

The main problem with the 510 series Remington's is the supply of replacement parts dried up 30 years ago. For instance, the bolt handles were manufactured in different lengths designated "A" to "E". ALL of the A thru C handles are long gone, and outfits like Numrich have 5 gallon buckets full of D,s and E,s, which are basically useless. Add to the fact that it is a lower price point gun not engineered for the same longevity as say a 40-X and it is a tube feed which is another nightmare when the mechanism wears and begins to malfunction. There are a few guys around that can do a little witchcraft and maybe make it work, but for a legitimate gunsmith to take one on and guarantee a repair, at a profit, is not too likely.
