    custom bedding Rem700

Ok so im tempted to bed my Remingotn 700 w/ bell and carlson stock. It has an aluminium block already in the action.
so will i get a signifigant result from bedding it.

What kind of material should i use to bed it. glass bedding. or a fiber glass sheets? i have a friend i work with that has fine sheets of fiber glass that he would let me use and help me with bedding the stock.

will either of them last with the material my stock is made of i have heard many stories of people bedding their stocks just to have the material reject the compound.
Bell and Carlson stocks are constructed using a "hand lay-up" process, using a variety of "composite" materials. These composites, including fiberglass, aramid fibers, graphite, epoxy gel coats and laminating resins; and polyurethane reinforcement with milled fiberglass, provide a warm and solid feel rather than the hollow, toy like impression one gets from injection molded stocks.

How does it shoot now? How much improvement are you expecting? Can it help? Yes it can. Can it cause your rifle to shoot worse if done incorrectly? Yes it can. Can it have no affect at all? Yes it can.

If this is a factory rifle and it can hold .5 to .75 with good factory match ammo don't bother.

the best ive got is 1/2 groups at 100yds with factory reloads which is more than i thought i could do. I havent even tryed match ammo just because it is more expensive but i will start a reloading endevour to try and get some ammo cheaper and more accurate. but im always chasing the making 1 little hole with many rounds. And im hesitant to take it to about the only gunsmith i know local to me because the guy is a dick and basically told me that re blueing my T99 ariska that is the last thing i have of my grandfather was not worth his time, and it would be cheaper to just buy one.

If you are getting .5 with factory reloads then factory match and your reloads will do just as well. I wouldn't even bother messing with having it bedded. Shoot some more through it and see what the average is and if it's consistent before you look to dump money into it that's not needed.

^^^ Good advice right there^^^ I was told the same thing regarding my rifle by some experienced shooters. Unless you just wanna burn some money doing an experiment.

ya..sometimes i just see things and just get the urge to tinker, and mess with what is already working. yes i know stupid but i have fun doing it.

i will head the advice and try some match ammo this weekend when i go shooting. Sot hanks for the advice, keeping that one link as future reference.
