    Anodizing for 1911 frame

Hey guys I'm finishing up a 1911 frame and need an anodizer in the San Diego area. Anyone have any hook ups?

Frame is a little oily and dirty just need to clean it up.

Please ignore if you're already thinking about doing this prior to anodizing...

Make sure you cut the barrel bed to final depth.

Fit your slide onto the frame.

Fit the beavertail to the frame.

Cut front strap checkering, if not there already.

Basically, do all the fitting, drilling, cutting, sanding, reaming etc. to the frame prior to getting the anodizing done. You don't want to do all that after anodizing.

With regards to the anodizing, I plan to DIY per instructions I've gotten here, youtube, and the web, as job shops charges too much for one-off jobs. Techplate here in Anaheim has done well for me in the past though... But whichever shop you go with, be sure to check with them whether they do frames that are not serialized (assuming you haven't serialized yours. If you have, ignore me).

    Looking forward to your build.

Maybe browse the commercial services & vendor sections on the forum?

Good idea! I'll look. I remember there was a person doing it but I think they stopped for firearms

Please don't try this at home. I used to own a Plating shop. Anodized is not like paint, every time you mess up and strip it you change the dimensions. It cannot be recovered.

The thickness changes with the current which changes with the contract point. That affects color,
If you lose contact, or have a loose connection it will arc. Picture taking an arc welder to your part.

Yup it looks easy. There are so many variables I can't picture doing it at home. I had a 1600 gal tank. A huge refrigeration system and a full time chemist (me) it still took constant adjustments to meet mil spec.

Turns out A to Z metal finishing in Miramar will do a batch of type 2 for $85 and type 3 for $125 up to 6 parts. Or go through TPM arms for $25 with a few weeks to month lead time

What if OP doesn't need mil-spec?
