Fitting a bull barrel onto a slide

    Gurus,

I'm taking a crack at a 2011 build. How hard is it to match up the end of a bull barrel to slide? Can this be done at home or special machining is needed? I can fit the barrel hood to slide just fine. I'm just worried about mating the end of the bull barrel and slide. Thanks.

It can be done at home, but requires time and patience.

Not too hard, though it does take time. Making it look like a factory job your first few times will be difficult.

Can either of you tell me what I need in terms of tools to do this? There isn't much on the interwebs and would love to start this 2011 project.

No doubt, that Kuhnhausen's book is the bible for 1911's.

Will check it out. Hope it doesn't require a lathe. I don't have that kind of equipment. Thanks for the help.

A lathe is certainly the best way to do it.
You could also do it with hand turned piloted tools, but it will come out looking like you did it yourself at home.
There are always professionals that you can pay to fix it later though.
