    Remington 700 trigger problem

    Hello,

I'm having an issue with an old Remington 700 adl trigger ( nothing to do with the recall). I've searched online but the recall is making it hard to find anything to do with other trigger related issues.

I bought an older used adl and it shot great. Until I started getting light primer strikes. It was striking just very light. I checked the firing pin and it was within spec, replaced the firing pin spring and it fired again. After about 15 rounds went back to light strikes then the trigger just locked up. I could operate the bolt and safety but the trigger would not move. I disassembled the trigger ( factory trigger) and found it to be sticky with cleaning stuff from the years past. Cleaned it down to the safety detent bearing and put it back in. Worked fine for about 7 rounds then light strike then locked up.

Anyone have any ideas? My next step is replacing the trigger assembly, but trying to make it work first.

    Thanks for any input

How old is "Older"?? All Rem triggers except the 788 made from about 1956 or so up until the BS problems and subsequent recall were the triggers subject to the recall. they are non adjustable even though they contain set screws that allow adjustment.

Oct 2006 is when the Mark X pro hit the market, it's adjustable through the bottom of the trigger housing and only adjustable in a very limited range.

My suggestion to you would be to tear down your bolt and clean everything. also remove your trigger and clean it as well. A good soaking in VM&P Naphtha works great for this. then hit it with some compressed air. USE NO OIL ON THE TRIGGER. The VM&P naphtha is lubrication enough.

If your trigger is the one subject to the recall I'll happily take it off your hands and replace it free of charge with a Mark X pro. There is nothing wrong with the Walker patent trigger, Even Ol' H. Jack Belk admits that under oath, the issue was and still is to this day two things, 1. Lack of maintenance on the trigger i.e. failing to clean out the junk build up of years of use and improper use of lubricants on the trigger itself. 2. Persons either gunsmiths or over zealous gun owners playing with set screws they have no idea what they do and how they affect the function of the trigger.

Bolt was completely stripped, firing pin spring replaced and firing pin was within spec. I removed the trigger and removed the gunk, replaced it back dry and continued same issue. Would fire fine for a few rounds, then light primer strikes, then trigger stuck and can't pull on fire or in safe. I'm not looking to replace anything. This is not a pro trigger, just your normal walker. I just ordered a new trigger spring to see if that helps. Any other info or possibilities would be appreciated.

Sounds like maybe the over travel adjustment is not set correctly and you can't pull the trigger and when it does pull is causing drag between the sear and cocking piece of the bolt. If you don't know how this trigger adjusts or works any help from us is a guess. Gets some first hand eyes on trigger help.

Thanks for the info. I just can't figure how it would shoot for 60 rounds before and then stop. Let it sit and it fires again, then the trigger freezes. I can only figure a spring and gunk issue. Gunk removed, trigger bone dry and now waiting on the new trigger spring.

Just get a Timney and be done with it.

I asked if the bolt was stripped and cleaned not just stripped.

if it's a walker trigger it is subject to recall, and As suggested replace with a Timney 510 and be done.
