    LR-308 Buffer Question

    Hi,

I recently finished my CMMG LR-308 using a 20in upper with a rifle length gas system. I accidentally bought a carbine 308 buffer tube and 308 buffer spring. Will a carbine length buffer system work with a rifle length gas block on a 308?

In short: you're fine. The gas system and buffer system are independent of each other. However, there may be some fine tuning you can do by adjusting gas flow at the gas block or buffer weight, if you really wanted to.

The carbine buffer should not have any effect on the operation of the rifle given the rifle length gas system. As far as I know, the carbine buffer is really just for carbine stocks; adjustable or short length of pull varieties. The rifle length gas system is used on longer barrels and typically has a slightly smoother operation due to an ever so slightly longer time for the gasses to expand in the barrel before cycling the action.

You should, in theory, be able to run any gas system you want with any stock/buffer system and the rifle should operate fine. As long as you have a carbine buffer/spring/tube, you'll be fine. DO NOT use a rifle length spring or buffer in a carbine tube, or vice versa. DO NOT mix and match buffer components; but you can use non-like gas to buffer components.

Yes, no problem. Just make sure your buffer is also for the LR308 carbine.

LR308 Carbine buffer and spring = carbine tube and carbine stock.
LR308 Rifle buffer and spring = rifle tube and rifle stock.

The only thing that dictates which one is the stock you are going to use.

Barrellength/gas system length do not matter.
