I don't think those marine models actually had ANY stainless in them.
They just nickel plated regular steel to get the corrosion resistance they needed for a marine environment.Randall Rausch

Although I am not the CG Winchester shotgun expert I believe you have a SXP Ultimate Marine Defender. Hard chrome plating - no SS. Any only the barrel and the mag tube are plated - the receiver is not.
Remington's version, the 870 Marine Magnum, is electroless nickle and it is all plated - receiver and all.
At least that is how they have come from the factory - who knows what someone may have done.Anyone press will hear the fat lady sing.

Does it look like this with plated receiver (model 1200)

or this with black teflon(?) finish (model 1300)

or this the current (model SXP)

Here is a 1985 catalog with 4 models shown.

The wood furniture, if original, is from the 1200 era (I do not believe any 1300s had wood furniture or plated receivers, but would not place bet on early 1300s). Good completely plated NIB (or close) examples with boxes and papers are worth $1k+ on Gun Broker.
The 2001 catalog claims to have a real stainless steel barrel. http://www.winchesterguns.com/support/catalog.html
Post up a picture. You should also be able to find a serial number to model and year of manufacture by searching around on the web.Comment

Here are the Winchester factory dates

The year will tell you the model. Different sources on the net put the change from the 1200 to the 1300 from 1981 to 1990, go figure. The later 1200s and all the 1300s were 3" guns, so that will not help much.
Polished or matte finish are different models according to the '85 catalog page above. All of the guns were triple plated according to the catalogs. First copper, then nickel, then chrome.
Search eBay for the catalogs and ads from your year of manufacture (+- 1 or 2) and they will tell the rest of the story.
Hope this helps
