Can anyone recommend a shop for a 1911 checkering job in the Orange County area? I was going to send it to Springfield Armory, but they are not accepting outside custom work and are instead focusing on limited production Custom Shop production guns.

i'm told Mr. Tanaka does a great job -
Years ago he did one for me, machine checkering. When he returned it to me it had lines that were deeper on top than on bottom, and some points on the checkering were flattened. He ultimately fixed the problems to a degree, but needless to say I was not happy. Nice guy, and he did another job for me that turned out well (although he outsourced most of it), but I have not given him any more work since.NRA Member, CAPRC MemberComment

If the surfaces to be checkered are not perfectly flat and straight, then machine checkering will not be even.
I hand checkered my Para frame, it was not until the cutting started that some small ripples in the frame could be noticed.Last edited by ojisan; 09-14-2016, 10:28 AM.
