    J&G gunsmithing

So I went to J&G gunsmithing today, hoping that I could get some help with some stuck and mangled AR FSB pins. I walked in, and showed the guy at the counter my barrel. He took it back for a moment, looked at it, and then told me that it was illegal for him to work on it and illegal for me to possess and I would go to jail if caught with it.

I unwisely decided to argue with him, during which he informed me that there were two cases pending concerning ARs (or maybe AKs or some other "evil" rifle), that because the barrel had a flash suppressor and was threaded, it was illegal, and that another gunsmith had been shut down for working on an AR or AR part. He also told me that all other off list rifles in the state were illegal, and anyone who owned them was breaking the law.

Has anyone gone to J&G before and dealt with the FUD that can be found there? Is it true that a gunsmith was shut down for working on an AR or AR related part?

J&G is a little shop that caters to old, fat hunters. Unless you're shopping for a hunting rifle or a used pistol I wouldn't go there. My father is on a first name basis with the owner - he's shopped there for years - and they aren't bad people, but so far it's been a total no go on OLL stuff.

Yeah, it seemed like a really Fuddy store. I was mostly curious about the court cases he mentioned as well as if a gunsmith was really put out of business for working on an AR.

ETA:I have nothing personal against the owner, I'm sure he is a good gunsmith and knows a lot about firearms, but his knowledge on the law seemed to be quite lacking, and he seemed to think I was just a stupid kid with no idea of what I was talking about. He was adamant that if a LEO caught me with the barrel I had brought to him that I would be arrested for it.

If you're old and fat and want a new elk gun they will help you, otherwise forget it. Like many other shops it's "NO" oll, period.

He is a gunsmith, not a lawyer -- Can't say I blame him for not wanting to deal with it --

Unfortunatley many old timers are going be hipp with these new times. Many large chains do not want to risk their license on what others could possible convert the firearm to.

In the LA area there are _ AR auromers = Gun Runner Durate - but even they are pretty crusty around the edges.

If you cant getter done - I would contact 15barrels and see if this some thing he could do.

I thought one of the members here worked at JG gunsmithing.
