    modding 10/22 bolt release mechanism

Mk. so i was going to buy a auto bolt realese for my 10/22. But looking at the pictures it appears that all is different is that little tab where it looks like a heart. Now if i shave that down will it work as an automatic bolt release or is there something else differnt that im not seeing in the pictures.

    stock ruger 10/22

    aftermarket

EDIT: after about 5 minutes or with the dremel i got to work. And tested 3 magazines with live rounds and no accidental discharges. All it took was a Dremel w/ a tile cutting bit.

I modified mine and it works. Drilling and tapping the mag release also works - just install a screw and voila, an extended mag release.

I went out and bought the volksquartsen sp* one and installed it the other day. It works well except two things - if you dont hold the bolt lock button in very hard when you pull back the bolt, then you can hit the butt of the stock and the bolt releases - er. Also, if you push up on the bolt lock while pushing back, it gets pushed in a little bit so its hard to push out.

I just received this from another member (Sig357) today.

EDIT: I just realized ford bumped an old thread but maybe it will help someone still.

i did mine with a dremmel with the little grinding stoke that looks like a tic tac

then i realized how annoying it was cleaning the barrel and having the bolt close on my rod and patch so i bought a new one from ruger
