Cut down the A2 front sight?

I have an M&P 15 I'm getting out of jail next week and I wanted to install a free float hand guard at some point which would require going to a low profile gas block. Replacing the block not a huge deal as I think I could do it with the proper tools, but I was wondering if any of you had trimmed down the A2 sight to keep a the gas block pinned rather than going to the aftermarket blocks held with set screws.
I figure I would pay for a decent block and the tools (which I should get anyway) so if there was a shop that offers the service I wouldn't mind paying since I have to spend either way.
    Any thoughts?

I cut mine down and took it to the bench grinder so it would fit under my ALG hamdguard. Works great!

It's easy enough to DIY with a dremel if you have one, if you don't they're good tools to have around.

If you are getting the block anyways, DIY, remove it, replace it, and keep it. Reversible, and you're getting the tools anyways. More fun, more personal, and more educational.

You can ALWAYS take a shoebox of parts to a smith and pay double-price for the "I mucked it up, please fix it for me and don't derride me too much, please" job.

They make free floats that fit around fsbs.

Just an FYI if your new hand guard needs to have a new barrel nut installed or needs the standard delta ring removed to install it, you will have to remove the front sight anyways to slide the gas tube out of the way.

If your fully removing it though, then yes trimming it will fit under some hand guards.

Daniel defense has one. I have one in a box I might be willing to sell.

I did it to one of mine. Works just fine that way. I had planned on replacing it at some point. Thanks for the reminder lol. Since you can't really tell I forget I even did it.

Does your current FS/gas block have taper pins or set screws ( I don't have a 15/22). If you take off the A2 style gas block there may be flats or taper pin holes that a new smaller low profile won't cover up. Would still shoot but would look kinda fugly. See photo below. In which case just cutting down and grinding the existing signt is the best option.
