Changing Threads on a Flash Hider

Threads on the rifle were cut for an American muzzle brake. The correct, factory flash hider has different threads. I assume it is best to try to change theading on the factory flash hider, but will that require welding over the hole and redrilling then threading it?

The best thing is to cut and re-thread the barrel, if the barrel isn't chrome lined that is.

as long as cutting the barrel doesn't make it too short

Sometimes you can just retap over an existing thread and that might work or if the flash hider is too big then you can insert heli-coils. Heli coils cost about 5 bucks for ten and the tap is around 10 bucks. Rethreading barrel is the best option but dont know how much it will cost.

I had the same issue once. I tapped the flashider for the barrel threads.

          Piece of cake.

It all depends on what thread sizes we're talking about here. What is the thread on the barrel and what is the thread on the hider?

AR15 threads on the rifle, 15.1/RH on the flash hider.

With it being a 15x1 thread (HK I'm assuming) you'd have to thread and Loctite a bushing into the flash hider, drill a hole in the bushing and thread that 1/2"x28. We can get it done pretty easy, basically a matter of building an 'adapter' of sorts.

THANKS to King Armory for a job very well done. The flashider was modified and refinished, and went perfectly on my rifle. Fair price, excellant workmanship and good turnaround time. I'm really pleased.

Here's the flashider on my rifle.

Wow, thats a serious rifle The only thing I wasn't 100% happy with was the parkerizing, where the FS got heated to silversolder in the thread sleeve it just wouldn't parkerize as darkly. We reblasted and reparked it 3x and it just wouldn't take completely, must be something in the alloy.

Matches up with my barrel, so if you didn't mention it I never would have noticed.
