Desert Eagle Gas Piston

I have a DE Mark 1 and two Mark VII's. The gas piston broke on the Mark I. Magnum Research sells a replacement gas piston for the Mark XIX, but does not support the Mark I or Mark VII with this part. I was told by their "support" that since there are not many Mark I or Mark VII's in use, they no longer sell the gas piston for it. As I've found, the gas piston is prone to failure. I was told that the new gas piston cannot be made to work in the older models. I bought two gas pistons from Falcon Arms in Minnesota. After using a micrometer on the critical parts of the old and new versions, it seemed that I could make the newer version work. The remainder of the old piston was removed by tapping out the drift pin with a 1/16 inch punch. It looks smaller (I bought a 3/64 from Brownells) but the 1/16 is correct. A bit of judicious filing was all that was required. At the range, the replacement worked great. MR sells the new version for $45 and Falcon Arms is at $15. I searched a over for the older style, and came up dry.

I know you posted this a while back. Just wanted to say thanks for doing so.
The piston in my Mark I 357 broke a little while back.
The old versions are either made from un-obtainium or when found, seller asking a very high premium.

Good to know the new version will work with an easy filing mod.
