AR 15 Take Down Detent hole Threading

Some years back there was a thread about installing an allen head screw, in the hole where the take down pin detent and spring reside. So when removing the stock the spring is retained and doesn't fly out.

Anyone remember this and have a link to the thread??????? It might have been around "2008".

It is a great mod. Lube the tap.

          4-40 thread. I usually tap 3/4 deep.

Tactical machining 308 uses a 4-48 for the rear hole
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Areo Precision Lowers come tapped. Its one of the best mods ever.

Just make sure to cut the spring whatever the length of the set screw is.

Lots of people break taps in receivers doing this mod.
The better soution is to drill a new hole so that the grip holds the spring, like how 308's are usually done.

All Tactical Machining BDX lowers come that way, and also have a nylon tipped allen in the grip area to "tighten" the pper to lower fit to your preference.
I started doing this on all my lowers regardless f the manufacturer.
