Possible 80% build

Quick question. Is an 80% AR built rifle legal? As in I won't get into trouble if I take it to the range for picking?

It is legal.
It is advisable to put a serial number and manufacturers markings on it so that if some law enforcement officer happens to stop you on the way to the range or home, they don't think you have a gun with the serial numbers removed.
It is illegal to remove the serial numbers from a gun.
It is not illegal to have a gun without any serial numbers as long as the gun never HAD any serial numbers, but some officers may assume that the lack of serial numbers means you removed them.

I have been looking for uppers, tons of them out there. Since this will be my first build I do not want to spend a ton of money. I did see on gun broker a Colt expansion with BCG and dust cover for between $320-$350. Figured since its Cokt the quality should be good.

So I drank the Kool-Aid and just bought the Hardened Arms 16" 556 M4 Mel 1/9 Tactical 10" Quad Rail Upper with BCG and mil spec CH. Then I bought the 80% Arms easy jig, tools for it and complete lower kit. From the research I have done so far I think I will be happy with it. Once I get everything in my hands I will start a build thread.

With a good jig and minimal milling skills, it's relatively easy and very satisfying.

I suggest starting with a polymer lower to get the gist of it but not necessary.
