I got my new lathe today; upgraded from a 1440 prototrak to a 0 Hour, 2014 Haas TL-1 with a tool changer

Not sure which of my current gun related projects I need this for but it sure is gonna be nice. Anybody have $.02 with respect to a 5C closer for it?

A lot, but less than a new one. Not sure if it was 2015 or 2016 but Haas got rid of the manual knobs. I was set on getting one of the combo manual / CNC varieties as it's just so handy to be able to walk up and go for something quick and dirty. I've been watching EBAY for a while and this one was priced appropriately, had the tool changer, and was Zero hours so I couldn't resist.

I keep thinking about a 16x40 ez-path for that same reason.
I could never be WITHOUT a manual lathe in the shop and I don't have room for 2 lathes if I had one with a full chip gaurd and door...

I'm by no means a gunsmith , I just like to mess around. That being said, one of the guys that works witn me has been trying really hard to get me to barrel work. Let me scrap a couple of my own before I start ruining others peoples stuff

Royal makes, or made, a pneumatic closer. Kind of tedious to set it up though.
And the one we have, you can't leave the closer tube installed while doing chuck work. And the outboard end of the spindle needs to be accessible.

Thank you for the feedback on the Royal , it is one of the 2 I am looking at, Rovi being the other. The royal is pneumatic but also double the cost.

That's a sweetheart. we almost bought one like that several years back. we ended up buying a larger machine with a 12 tool changer. I always thought the tool room lathe would be handier on small runs. Hang on to it.

Can't argue with you there...but I will say, you won't get much plane for $10k.
