Has anyone used the stainless steel blackener that's Caswell sells? I just bought some to hopefully use on my 3" stainless build. I have some scrap 416ss to test it on but it would be nice to hear from you all if you have experiences. Pictures would be great also. Thanks

I just googled it...
It gives you a gray finish that can be splotchy unless you dunk it multiple times. It is an acidic liquid that can be harmful and very smelly. It wears very poorly on moving parts...
That's the gist of what I got. The golfers who have tried it, who are not looking for a real "blued" look to their putters, love it...
Edited to add - take it to Techplate in Anaheim for a nice, black, and pretty tough stainless-blue. If you are just bluing some small stainless parts I guess the Caswell stuff can work, though I think they're trying to tell you something when the item is listed under Metal Antiquing... You don't usually handle "antiques" all that much...Last edited by pklin1297; 05-24-2016, 5:03 PM.NRA Member, CAPRC MemberComment
